About

On a wing a prayer, you ask? Here’s what the phrasebook says. “In poor condition, but just managing to get the job done”. I rest my case.

Cast:
Indian Mom
Viking Dad
The spawn of their union – The Boy and the Toddler

Action unfolds at our humble abode in the land of the Midnight Sun. Sub-zero temperatures and the lack of sun make us vile and permanently groggy. The result of this is that our offspring often have their way with us and you, my dear reader, will often be witness to their wily ways and our staggering incompetence. In between full time jobs, we are pretty much parenting on a wing and a prayer.

Strap on ‘em seatbelts and prepare for episodes of wailing, screaming, teeth gnashing and sheer terror. And thats just the Viking and I.

However, huge soul-warming cups of strong, sweet tea and effective narcotic drugs have made our journey more pleasant over the years and saved us therapy fees.

Came here through the Mad Momma via a comment of yours she linked to.
You write well. The header pic reminds of the Lincoln Tunnel (or the other one that I cannot remember now) in NY. Where is it?

    • shal247

Thanks, Anita.. and keep visiting:-) As for the header, its a standard wordpress header – so I wouldn’t be able to help you locate the tunnel. Sorry:-(
Will be making a personal header over the New Year.

    Hi Mom Gone Mad,

I found my way to your blog via the Mad Momma’s. I’m still devouring your archives. Your ‘Waking’- so, so beautiful! I have a 10 month old daughter myself, and my mind automatically pictured the scene that plays out every time she wakes up, as I read the lines. Truly beautiful. (Can you hear me gush?)

Love your writing- you’ve got your self another stalker! Have a wonderful week. Cheers!

Just like me … Is it a little bit stupid to smile like a loon when you see a fellow indian in norway ..even after 2 years 🙂

Your blog makes me smile 🙂 I lived in Oslo for 3 years but managed to drag my Viking husband to Sydney where it’s warmer! We visit Norway every now and then, the Viking is still holding hope that his children will be able to ski!! Thanks for the lovely reading.

  21. I love your blog and the one where you spoke of how you hate the future which doesnt have the kids in it. I have a daughetr and it actually seems not a nice place to be one day when she will be gone. I write a kids blog in Mumbai called http://www.kidsstoppress.com where we review everything to do with kids. Do check it out

  22. Hi!
I am writing on behalf of Women’s Web, an online women’s magazine based out of India. We are planning a travel series, profiling interesting women bloggers from across the world.

I came across your blog recently and find it quite impressive. Would you be interested in contributing a guest post for us on some fun things that a mom and kids can do in your city?

If you are, then please drop me an email and I’ll get back to you with further details. Hope to hear from you soon!

    Regards,
    Anne.

  23. Hey Shalini,

I was wondering if you got my mail as I haven’t heard back from you after the initial mail yet! Please do let me know.

  24. Hey MGM,

I was asked to nominate 5 bloggers whose work I love for the Liebster award. I love your writing, and I do check your blog every so often to see if you came up with something new. Plus, I’m a sucker for Armaan’s pictures too. So here’s hoping to see more from you….
